Hello, I’m Sam Burman, a 18 year old female motorcycle road racer from Messingham, Scunthorpe.

Ever since I can remember, I have always wanted to race motorbikes. In fact ever since I can remember I have raced motorbikes in a variety of disciplines, starting at the age of six with a good deal of success ever since.
As I’m sure you can imagine being a female in a totally male dominated sport is attracting much media attention. The attention gained by being just that little bit different could increase the profile of your company through advertising.

I'm an 18 year old apprentice turner from Messingham, North Lincolnshire, I started out racing back in 1995 at the age of just six competing in Motor Cross events, moving on to Grass Track in 1997, with the aim always to progress onto road racing when older. Grass Track was favoured as here I was battling against other competitors rather than fighting the elements of a Motor Cross track. Then in 2001 we moved my career on again to Mini-moto racing a step nearer to the Road Racing world I dreamt of, here we achieved great success.  I have been brought up in the racing world as my dad was a successful 250cc racer winning a British Championship in 1991. In 2004 I progressed into Road Racing on an Aprilia RS125 production bike where we constantly finished within the top ten, once my clubmans licence was achieved later that season we moved into the highly competitive 125 GP class riding a Honda RS 125. With my ambition always to be the best in class. In 2005 I took my first wins at Cadwell which we believe to be the first female to win at our local circuit it was also the place where my father also took his first in 1978.  My career with a few ups and downs such as broken legs and poor eyesight went from strength to strength. For the 2007 season I had the opportunity to compete the British championships under the Virgin Media team banner, the year was a steep learning curve and if I'm honest we struggled a little and parted company with the team. But for 2008 we will be there to fight again the plan is to run at club meeting level to gain future in confidence and lap times and move back to the British mid season to gain in experience. I looking forward to my new season and new partnership with Barrtonfield Ltd. and Lincs Lifting as Main Sponsors.

How did you get involved in Road Racing?
I have been involved with it all my life, It's always been around because of my dad. That is why I got into it, but not why I do it now. I love it, I just love riding the bike that feeling you get, but riding fast obviously.

What drives you to keep competing?
The chase always needing to be better it gets tiring but that's what drives me the constant need to improve, with the aim of becoming British Champion

Your career highlights?
Winning, winning at Cadwell was pretty good really it felt so good coming off a hard year, this meant a lot to me because it shows I can do it and turn the year around, I'm judging this not only on the wins but the fact I went faster which means I did improve, and restored the belief that there is more to come.

What's your favourite track?
Cadwell Park because there's so many different types of corners which are hard to get right. Also the atmosphere is completely different to anywhere else and because its local everyone has a story about going. I also like Donnington because its a fast flowing circuit.

What's it like being a girl in the sport?
To me it doesn't really feel like I'm that much different I feel at home in the paddocks because it where I've been brought up.

What do you spend your spare time doing?
I don't have spare time; I spend my time preparing cleaning and polishing my bikes for the meetings. Also I go running to allow me to perform my best on race day, and when all that's done I will go out with my friends.

If you weren't racing bikes what would you do?
I've got three goal in life ( with no time scale) to become British Champion, To learn as much as I can about my trade and become a brilliant turner, and to one day have a happy home with a loving family
